Reference Sites

The following sites provide information to assist you locate important information in relation to the provision of Psychological and Psychotherapy Services.

  • The Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) provides information about registered health and allied health practitioners - including psychologists. This is a useful site if you need to check on the registration details of a health care provider.
  • The Australian Psychological Society (APS) has useful information in relation to psychological services. Some of the information on this site is useful to the public such as details in relation to psychology services and Medicare benefits.

The sites in this category contain information that can be useful for people experiencing various mental or emotional wellbeing issues.

  • The Black Dog Institute takes its name from the term used by Winston Churchill to describe his lifelong fight with depression. The site contains useful information in relation to various types of depression including bipolar disorder.
  • Beyond Blue provides information about depression and anxiety and some very useful links to videos and resources. I particularly like their video about anxiety and if you're unsure whether you are suffering from anxiety, then after watching the video I think you'll have the answer.
  • Headspace is an organisation that provides advice and support for people aged 12 - 25, and for their parents and carers. It's services are specifically targeted at young people. Some consultations and advice is provided free of charge.
  • Victim Support ACT provides a range of support services to people who have been victims of criminal activity. Services include Case Management, Counselling, Advocacy and Court Support. They can provide some free counselling support for victims of crime.
  • Lifeline offers its 24/7 hour counselling service on 13 11 14. However lifeline also offers fact sheets, self help tools and other online services.
  • PANDA (National Perinatal Depression Association) provides support and information for women, men and families who have been affected by perinatal depression.
  • Reachout is an online information service for young people. Reachout provides information and online forums where young people can get help with real life questions and problems.
  • Onelink Information and Connections provides information and connections for support services in the ACT including services for people who are homeless or at risk of homelessness.
